The Bible is not just a Holy Book, it is the Word of the Living God. God does not lie. God's Word is truth. I want to tell you a story from Luke 5,

Jesus stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat. When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless, at Your Word I will let down the net." And When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.

In this story you can see a clear difference between the people. Jesus went into a boat. He sat down and began to teach. While He was speaking, a vast crowd of people were sat on the shore listening, but they were following at a distance, they never got close to Jesus. So often people are at a distance. It is so easy for us to be at a distance from God, to never fully commit to following Him. Then there were those who were close to Jesus; these were His disciples, they got in the boat with Him, and obeyed His commands. When Jesus had finished talking to the people, He said to those in the boat, "Go out into deep water, then let down your nets; you are fishermen, go on fishing." But Peter and the other disciples said, "Master, we worked all night; we know this water, we know this sea we are on; we worked through the night." Those of you who know something about fishing are aware that very often you catch fish at night. The disciples were saying, "We worked at the time when it is the easiest to work, and we worked all night, we caught nothing, why do you tell us what to do? Why do you want us to go out into the deep?" But they said, "Nevertheless, if You tell us to do it, we are going to obey You." And they did. When they obeyed Jesus, the caught so many fish, there wasn't room in the boat, they had to bring other boats across to put them in; the disciples were shocked and amazed.

The same blessings await you if you obey the Word of the Lord. You may not like what the Lord is calling you to do, it may seem counterintuitive, but will you say, "Master, we have toiled all the night and taken nothing: nevertheless, at Your Word I will let down the net." No one can let down your net but you!
